ADDITIONAL INFO: The Bigger fish are starting to move up but still most of them are being caught in about 20-30 feet of water. There are exceptions though. A couple of nice bass were caught on topwater by using a Zara Spook. A Pop’R will catch a lot of fish but the Spook is more of big fish bait. As the day moves on, switch to a spinner with a 6”-8” trailer. Ben Seacrest tried this and landed an 11.6 pounder which he had to muscle out of the trees. He also caught a 9 and two 8 pounders on his visit. The medium and deep diving crankbaits have been producing some good numbers along with some quality fish. Fishing the trees with these lures is the key. Throw the crankbait past the tree and start reeling in. Once the bait is right at the tree, stop. That should produce a fish. Just ask John Friesz who caught a 10.6, 9.4, 9.4, and 7.8 pound bass most of them came on a crankbait. When it comes to plastic there has been one color that has been tearing them up, Green pumpkin. Texas rigging on deep points, flats, trees, and banks will catch a lot of bass with an occasional big fish. A 5/16 th bullet weight is recommended in the mourning and a 1/2 oz in the afternoon when the wind picks up. The bottom line is that the bigger fish are starting to move up from the change of weather that is taking place down here south of the border. It may be smart to bring some rain gear! |
