Lake El Salto is starting to pick up were it left off last season with an abundance of big fish being caught from the top of the water to the bottom. The “Rico” Pop’R has been producing many numbers as well as occasional big gins. Mr. Bill Malone, a day-tripper, caught 89 fish between 2-6 lbs. including an 11.4 pounder on a Pop’R. His partner, T.G. Simpson hooked a 12.4 lb. bass on a 10” Black with blue tail power worm on the same day. Kim Wooten landed 5 fish from 7-10.7 lbs in her three-day excursion. The fishing has really picked up since the opening of the lodge and is expected to get better as the season moves on.

The best success story of week is from a couple of big time fisherman who landed 18 fish from 6-10 lbs. in their 3 days of fishing. Most of their fish came on the Strike King Crankbait, which runs about 16 feet. What seemed to be the key to their great success was where they were fishing. They were throwing the big Crankbait past the trees and cranking it down and them pausing while it was at the trees. This method is a good for big fish and it will eliminate the smaller fish. Now Doug Rounds & Steve Bowyer wanted to catch numbers and did by landing 389 fish on their 4-day trip.
