Fishing
reports from bass anglers returning from the new "Lake
Huites" are of catches of 100 to 300 bass per
day from 2 to 10 pounds. " Lake Huites has the hottest
bass fishing I've ever seen," a veteran angler of
Mexico's hot bass fishing action for more than 25 years
reported after returning from a recent trip. One
and a half hours drive east of El Fuerte and
deep into the foothills of the Sierra Madre's, is the
new "Mystery Lake of Mexico," Huites,
where a lakeside fishing camp for Villa
Del Pescador was completed
in the summer of 1998. Lake Huites, constructed for irrigation
in 1991, was stocked with fast growing aggressive Florida
strain hybrid black bass three years ago. The lake has
been protected from fishing or netting since the stocking
and will be managed as a catch and release bass
fishing honey hole. The
lake covers about 15 thousand acres and is loaded with
cover and hungry bass. The Florida hybrids are fast growers
and are already reaching 7 pounds. With the management
strategy now in place these fish will be pushing 10 pounds
this year. By this fall large numbers of 3 pound plus
bass will be caught.El
Fuerte, only 50 miles
from the international airport in Los Mochis, is the
most popular departure point to the Copper
Canyon, one of the more spectacular geological
wonders of Mexico.Villa
Del Pescador, a colonial
villa with guest accommodations for 16, has a reputation
for providing its bass fishing, bird hunting and Copper
Canyon clients, with good food and a quiet
place to relax while enjoying the many interesting
activities the area has to offer. A short walk along
the quaint cobblestone streets rewards guests with
a number of interesting sites and photo opportunities
such as the gardens at the town square, the 100 year
old Cathedral and warm smiles from the friendly residents
of El Fuerte. Packages
