Huites Bass Fishing Report for November 9, 2000

This was my second trip to Lake Huites, and it seems to get better every time! Upon arrival to the lake I was shocked and surprised to see that the water level is down approximately *100 feet* due to the effects of El Nino.

My fears of slower fishing were quickly dashed once we were on the lake - we didn’t get on the water until about 8:30am, and by our lunch and siesta break at 12:30 I had caught somewhere between 50 and 75 fish. The topwater action was so fast and furious that I didn’t have time to take any pictures! Just the way I like it!

We had the best luck on topwater in the mornings using Pop-R’s and floating plastics, and had better luck catching bigger fish in the afternoon on deep-diving crankbaits and sinking worms & lizards (Texas or Florida rigged - the dense brush in the lake is not well suited to Carolina rigs). The biggest fish of our trip (that made it in the boat) weighed in at 9lbs 7oz. (I think a few bigger were caught, but not landed.) caught on a deep-diving citrus/white/silver crankbait.

The intense fishing action coupled with the superb service and hospitality of the staff makes for a true Mexican Bass fishing fantasy. I have only experienced fishing of this caliber at Lake Huites, and I don’t believe there is a finer Bass lake in the world today!
